Highlighting Women

Lupercal sets out to promote Latin stories about women and written by women. This project is near and dear to our heart since the original text was written by three women!

Helen Maria Chesnutt

Lead author of The Road to Latin was Helen Maria Chesnutt, daughter of Charles Chesnutt who was a well-known American author during the Harlem Renaissance. After receiving her BA from Smith college and her MA from Columbia, Helen taught Latin at Central High School in Cleveland, Ohio. One of her students was the famous poet Langston Hughes!
